What You'll Need to Start
Our culinary arts program works best when you have the right setup. Nothing fancy—just a reliable computer, decent internet, and a kitchen space where you can practice what you're learning. We've kept things simple because cooking should be about the food, not fighting with technology.
Most students already have everything they need. A laptop from the past five years and a kitchen with basic appliances—that's honestly it.
Program Director, Tranquix Culinary
We designed our platform to work on standard computers because we wanted to remove barriers. Your laptop doesn't need to be top-of-the-line. If it can handle video streaming and basic applications, you're good to go. The real investment is your time and practice in the kitchen—not expensive equipment.

What Students Actually Use
We asked students in our September 2024 cohort what they're working with. Turns out, nobody needed to buy new equipment—they just made do with what they had.

I'm using a 2019 Dell laptop with 8GB of RAM. It runs a bit warm during long sessions, but I've had zero problems following along with the video lessons. My kitchen is tiny—just four burners and a small oven—but that's been enough for every recipe so far.

Evening Program Participant
My MacBook Air from 2020 works perfectly. Sometimes I switch to my tablet when I'm in the kitchen because it's easier to prop up near the stove. The mobile version of the platform is surprisingly good—I can pause, rewind, and take notes without any lag.

Weekend Learner
I worried my older HP laptop wouldn't cut it, but it's been fine. The platform loads quickly and the videos buffer ahead so there's no stuttering. I did upgrade my internet to 20 Mbps—that made a noticeable difference when downloading recipe PDFs and watching demonstrations.

Tranquix Platform
We built our platform to be forgiving. It works on Windows, Mac, and even Linux systems. If you can browse websites and stream content from services like YouTube or Netflix, you already have everything you need. We've tested it on computers dating back to 2017 without issues.
Ready to See If Your Setup Works?
Our next program starts in September 2025. Before you sign up, you can test your computer and internet connection with our free compatibility checker. Takes about two minutes and tells you exactly where you stand.
